Event date: Friday, June 3, 2016 - 7:30pm @ Cooperfield's Books!
Featured Book: Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging
A book by Sebastian Junger is always an event—The Perfect Storm and War are two seminal books of the last two decades—and Tribe, his newest, is already making noise. You’re invited to spend an exceptional evening with Junger as he talks about the importance of tribes as a social construct and what tribal societies teach us about loyalty, belonging, and the eternal human quest for meaning. Junger details why ironically—for some veterans as well as civilians—war can feel better than peace, adversity can turn out to be a blessing, and disasters are sometimes remembered more fondly than weddings or tropical vacations. He also challenges commonly held assumptions on the causes and the diagnosis of PTSD, offering a firsthand perspective on why modern American culture prevents soldiers from ever really returning home.
After the author talk and book signing, you are invited to stay for a viewing of the documentary film Restrepo, created by filmmakers Junger and Tim Hetherington. Restrepo was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and chronicles a platoon, a wartime tribe, of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, essentially creating a 90-minute deployment experience for viewers.
TICKETS: $15 General Admission or pay $10 admission with the purchase of the $25 book Tribe. ($35 admits one and $45 admits two.) Please note, service fees will be applied at all outlets.
